Audi took centre stage at the fourth edition of the Middle East Car of the Year (MECOTY) awards. The brand was adjudged winner across seven separate categories. It also won the overall Jury Car of the Year. Enrico Atanasio – Brand Director, Audi Middle East, said that Audi Middle East is proud to be the recipient of a record seven trophies at the event.
The models that picked up the honours are the RS Q3, RS 7 Performance, A4, TTS, the S8 plus and the Audi R8. The R8 was also the jury’s choice of Middle East Car of the Year. These awards are the benchmark for the automotive industry in the Middle East, he added. Lexus GSF was also chosen the car of the year.
The other brands that were recognised included Ford, Jaguar, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, Cadillac, Chevrolet, McLaren Renault, Bentley, Infiniti, KIA and Volkswagen. The evening was attended by top officials from all major automotive brands.
Ford’s new Edge was adjudged the “Compact SUV” title for 2017, while the Ranger claimed the “Best Midsize Truck” award. The compact Ford Figo took the crown for “Best Hatchback”.
The awards were held alongside the second edition of International Motor Show Abu Dhabi and the 3rd Custom Show Emirates, which concluded on April 01 at ADNEC, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Toyota Prius was chosen for future of motoring. The award was for setting up the benchmark for the future of clean emission technology. The industry design pioneer, another special award was given to Land Rover for their uniquely designed Range Rover Evoque Cabrio.
