Awards Presented to Winners of 2012-2013 Season

Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), “the Home of Motorsport in the Middle East,” held an awards ceremony at the BIC Paddock Club in Sakhir last weekend, to honour winners of the 2012-2013 BIC 2,000cc Challenge championship and the Bahrain Karting Championships.

Present at the ceremony was CIK-FIA president and Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) president Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, BIC chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, senior officials from the BIC, Circuit Racing Club, Bahrain Motor Federation and Bahrain Karting Club, and other invited guests.

Prizes for the first, second, and third place winners of the BIC 2,000cc Challenge were presented to Raed Himmo, Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Abdulrahman Ghuloom, respectively. Awards were also presented to Himmo and Stephen Kellogg for most pole positions last season. In addition, Kellogg bagged the award for the season’s fastest lap.

Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa received first prize in the championship’s Junior MAX Class. HH Shaikh Isa bin Abdulla Al Khalifa won second place, followed by HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Khalifa in third. In the MAX Class, prizes were awarded to winner Ahmed Kuzbar, second place Abdulla Althawadi, and third place Hussain Al A’ali. Shaikh Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, meanwhile, was named the winner of the championship’s DD2 Class.

In the Bahrain Karting Endurance Championship, prizes were awarded to first, second, and third place winners Batelco Racing Team, the Racing Falcons and Team BIC, respectively. Prizes for the first, second, and third places in the Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship’s Sodi W Series Class were presented to Khalid Alsaie, Qamar Saleem and Ahmed Ebrahim, respectively.

Shaikh Salman welcomed the guests to the ceremony and presented a short talk that underlined the importance of Karting as the main feeder class for some of motor sport’s most popular and demanding categories, in particular, the single-seater division. He also called attention to the significance of Karting as a major step for young Bahraini drivers to gradually develop their racing careers and congratulated the participants and various champions on their performances.
